Could you please post all files, as I've only seen Particle.cpp so far
on this thread.

W.r.t template version of Particle, I guess this is possible, but it
all depends upon how intrusive the changes are, it might be also
possible to re-factor things so it's easier to customize behavior or
perhaps just build in the extra flexibility required.
