I have tested it (after checking it back out) and it works for me. I tested it with a bunch of different small files of different types and channel depths. You can test it if you wish by using ImageMagick to convert an image to ppm, pgm, pbm, or pnm.
It's entirely possible that I'm the only one who has ever used this plugin.
