Hi Gill, I have reviewed the changes and they look reasonable given the sensible desire to make things more consistent between reading and write so have merged and checked in the changes.
However, I'm not an OSX user or expert so have to defer to yourself and other OSX on changes for OSX specific features, so would appreciate if other OSX users could just check to see everything works for their apps as they expect it.
