Hi Mattias, I've just done a quick review and don't feel comfortable with dropping the old code path complete and exclusively relying upon _NET_WM_STATE_ABOVE, what happens on older systems that don't support this?
It seems more appropriate to try the Atom and if it's supported using it, otherwise fallback to the old code path. Robert.
