Thanks for the change, now merged and submitted to svn/trunk.

The fix does suggest issues elsewhere though, passing a index more
than one beyond the end of current children size suggests that
something is amiss.  Where about did you see this problem?  I'd like
to establish if there is a bug elsewhere in the OSG?
