Hi Ralf,

Thanks.  However, I don't find asserts a rather blunt instrument that
only works in debug so prefer not to have them in the OSG code base.
I prefer use of human readable notices being reported in all builds.

As general note, I personally develop most of the time with an
optimized build and only resort to a debug build when I have a
specific issue that I'm investigating.
