A while back I discovered that ATI had developed their own Collada reader
that could parse quite a few of the scenes exported to Collada from
RenderMonkey...
I asked them about the source, and now it is available.

Without a thorough comparison, I cant say this loader is "better" than the
existing collada loader, but it is sure a lot better when it comes to
parsing render passes, GLShaders etc...

Would someone be interested in looking into how this can be used in in the
core osg?
I would hate if this excellent code would be developed in parallel with the
trunk in osg.

It sure is a great step towards a nice pipeline for creating high-quality
rendering in OSG.

Looks like it is released under: *SCEA Shared Source License 1.0

*
Cheers,

/Anders

 Hi Anders,

The Open Source code is now available in the download (
http://ati.amd.com/developer/rendermonkey/downloads.html).

Let me know if you have any questions.

Do you have any time-plan for this?
I do have a few projects that would make use of this feature....

Hi Anders,

Thank you for your question and I am glad to hear that you found the COLLADA
OpenGL Effects Viewer useful. We are planning to release the source code as
well, but were not quite ready to do so when we released the viewer. We
agree that it's important to share the code back with the OSG community and
have every intention of doing so.

Added Gordon Selley, the author of the viewer, who can answer any further
questions.

Thanks.

Hi. I recently found the COLLADA OpenGL Effects
Viewer<http://www2.ati.com/developer/rendermonkey/files/osg1.2_collada_gl_fx_viewer.zip>at
amd:s website which I downloaded and tried, works fairly good.

What Im curious about is why its not released to the OpenSceneGraph
community? It seems that its far better in handling
shaders/renderpasses/techniques than the reader in the current
OpenSceneGraph branch.

Would it be of interest for AMD to release it back to osg? I have been using
osg for 10 years, and its a good professional community that really would
make use of a better high-quality pipline.
Up until today, I haven't seen this good support for high-quality rendering
through collada into osg.
I read that Mike Weiblen wrote the first version of collada reader, which is
almost true, the very first was written by Daniel Sjölie here at Umeå
University and it was then released to the OpenSceneGraph community, then
Mike rewrote it, and now its been rewritten again as far as I know...

So I guess then your code is a "branch" of the work of Mike?

Cheers,
Anders Backman
