Based on benchmarks, it seems that the high end gaming graphics cards (i.e. GeForce GTX 280) tend to lead the Quadros in performance claims on most games. I suspect the this is because there is a broader game market, and the time/cost with getting Quadro cards certified for the list of CAD and modeling apps. On the other hand, the Quadro cards claim to be better at DCC, CAD, etc., and tuned for OpenGL.
That leaves me with the question of whether the additional cost and delayed development cycle of the Quadros are worth the cost for a fairly level comparison. I am considering a system with 1 or 2 GeForce GTX 280s for use with OpenSceneGraph based apps - primarily IGs/viewers like MPV operating on terrains with entitiies. I have researched specs and the such, but still can't figure out the real answer. Can any of the experts out there provide any suggestions?
