Hi Guys, I'd like to wrap up this thread with some concrete actions.
First up, change the /usr/local/lib postfix for 64bit builds looks like it will be of little overall benefit, so I'll stick with the existing scheme. Second, our make install isn't suggest anything about the need to add the installed library directory to LD_LIBRARY (and other platform specific env vars) or ld.so.conf which could do with addressing. I'm now cmake expert so could someone with better cmake skills than I step in and have a look at this. Thirds, we could provide an automatically generated openscenegraph-library-path.conf file in the distro that users could copy/or even CMake do the install of. I'm in two minds about this. If we have proper docs generated on the make install about the install path and the options open for adding the path I think the need to install this feel is diminished. Even if we do create and install such a file the need to document this on make install output is still required so the above would need to be addressed first, so we can defer this task till after the docs are improved.
