Hi Brad,

I'm currently busy preparing for a trip away so can't dive into
discussions right now. A quick reply on one point below as this one
seem odd:

On Mon, Oct 11, 2010 at 11:32 AM, Christiansen, Brad > I did do some
basic benchmarking between ARB_COMPRESSION and nvtt CPU based
compression and found the VPB build using OpenGL compression was ~4-5
times faster (in total run time). This is obviously a very big
difference in performance.

I tested the old GL based texture compression against the nw NVTT CPU
code path and both looked to complete in about the same time once I
had realised that NVTT's Cmake build system doesn't automatically set
the build type to Release, so had to do this manually myself and
rebuild to get the full performance. Perhaps this is something you
need to do at your end.

As for general idea of not using a GL context to do compression, I'm
very happy to see this happy and be improved upon.

Robert.
