Hi Eric,
dds orientation is a question of convention. Try option dds_flip if you
want to reverse dds.
This is not a bug, this is a feature.

Hello OSG users,
It seems as if the dds plugin reads in images upside down. Am I the only
one to see this? When I use ImageMagick's "display" the images I'm loading
are displayed with the proper orientation. These are compressed dds
images. I'm not sure what else to try in order to see if it's OSG that is
doing things wrong. I'm running on Linux and see the same behavior on
Centos 5 and Fedora 14. I'm running OSG 2.8.5; perhaps this is fixed in
3.0 or later?
