Hi, It's unclear what exactly you're attempting to do or what it means when you say it doesn't work for some models. I can only venture a guess as to what the problem is. I'm assuming you're trying to change the transparency of the object?
For the models in question, "cow.osg" already has lighting and materials associated with the stateset which probably explains why your code works here. On the other hand, "axes.osg" has no materials (color only). You can see this by viewing the contents of each "osgt" file. Remember, materials (and material alpha) only make sense when lighting is enabled. If lighting is disabled, color (r,g,b,a) is what is used.
