Hi Leo,

You've got the just of it, PagedLOD pages its LOD's in from disk on
demand, all the loading is done in background thread, and load
balanced to ensure constant frame rates.

I'd recommend you build you own paged databases.  See the osgdem
tutorial on the OSG wiki.

Also just search the mailing list archives for the word PagedLOD, its
a heavily used, and often discussed OSG feature.
