Andy -- A handy tool to know about is depends.exe. You'll find it in:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\Tools\Bin

Load your EXE into it and it should list all the DLLs the EXE depends on and
flag any that are missing.

Not sure this will help with your issue, but it's a handy tool for Windows
development.
