My colleague Phil Lavery has a registered charity called the Digital Learning Foundation.  I have discussed with Phil previously about the possibility of placing community donated funds under the DLF, with these funds managed sperately from the rest of the projects that the DLF undertakes.

Phil is already well down the road of putting together funding for the osgVolume project:

Have a browse through the site, its goals fits very well with OpenSceneGraph development and is already out there nuturing support for OSG related projects.
