Microsoft releases Visual Studio beta

Wednesday 27 September 2006
Microsoft has released a beta of Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack (SP) 1 via
its Microsoft Connect website.
The company said the service pack is in response to customer feedback. A
technical description of some of the fixes available in the service pack can
be found on the Microsoft Connect site.
The final version of the pack will be released in the next three to four
months, said Microsoft, after further customer feedback.
In addition to the availability of the beta version of Visual Studio 2005
SP1, Microsoft has also announced some of its support plans for Visual
Studio for Windows Vista.
An update to Visual Studio 2005 SP1 will be available after broad consumer
availability of Windows Vista, said Microsoft.
Existing applications built on the .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0 will work on
Windows Vista. However, Visual Studio .NET 2002 and Visual Studio .NET 2003
will not be supported as development environments on Windows Vista.
The company will instead concentrate on integrating Visual Studio 2005 with
Windows Vista, which will cause problems for developers yet to upgrade.
