You both may want to take a look at osgIntersect for both box selection and the 
selection of lines and points.  Let me know if you have any questions as I'm 
highly familiar with the code base.

Actually, I was also planning on using this method for single selection since 
using the osg::IntersectVisitor it is nearly impossible to select a line or a 
point.
