We have a prebuilt GDAL framework in the OS X binary package. And there is also a more comprehensive package of GDAL for OS X compared to the one we include with OSG which also provides frameworks I believe. I think you can get it from the GDAL site directly. It comes as a .pkg installer. What in OSG needs ungif? I thought all the OSG image related plugins used Quicktime as the back end.

I'm pretty sure that the Makefiles have never generated frameworks, only .dylib libraries.
I personally prefer the Framework technique myself and do encourage it. However, you are free to do what you prefer. It can be Schizophrenic or homogeneous depending. The Makefiles do not currently build frameworks though. (And only small percentages of Makefiles build Universal Binaries.) I am trying to get this addressed by CMake as we work on the new build system for OSG.
The OSG Binaries comes with a framework for GDAL (handmade by Eric Wing, perhaps? I'm not sure of it's origin).
James Hopper actually :) He prepares it, and I just dump it in the binary distribution.
In the past they have depended on the libFreeType library installed as part of Apple's X11, which you would need to have installed. I don't know if this is still the case.
We still use/need libfreetype for the Freetype plugin which is typically used by osgText.

By the way, isn't there a Gentoo project for OS X? http://www.metadistribution.org/macos/ -Eric _______________________________________________ osg-users mailing list [email protected] http://openscenegraph.net/mailman/listinfo/osg-users http://www.openscenegraph.org/
