Hi Robert,
I run:
osgdem -d elev_test_mtm8.tif
on Windows XP VS71, using stock OSG 1.0 and stock OSG 1.2, with no
environment variable set other than PATH, and with a small 70k
Geotiff DEM.
Using OSG 1.0, that gives 6 files worth 505KB; using OSG 1.2, we get
6 files weighting 1.77 MB. With a bigger DEM, I get the same 3.5:1
size ratio between the two versions (86 files gives 8.42 MB for OSG
1.0 versus 29.7 MB for OSG 1.2).
I get identical results on Linux FC4.

Sample dataset used ( a 70 Kbytes 16 bits Geotiff DEM ): http://

I doubt the changes that I made had anything to do with the different

osgTerrain that didn't do any terrain simplification at all which

Simplification has changed little since 1.0.
I don't really know what might be up. Apart from Jason's changes to
the sampling little has been done to osgTerrain or the simplifier, its
principally just bug fixes.
Without specific data, specific osgdem options and running the tests
before and after different versions of the OSG I really don't have
anything to go on. I don't even have a hunch to pass on.
Robert.
