I didn't see OpenVRML included in distributions too much, it is a pretty much an
obscure thing. It compiles without any hassle, though - if you have the
patience, of course.

There is OpenVRML in Fink for Mac, the compilation for Windows is also
straightforward if you disable things like the VRML viewer, Mozilla plugin
support and Javascript which need additional dependencies (Mozilla build in
particular!). I didn't test the latest 0.16.2 on Windows but the library used to
work fine there.

I didn't test IRIX as I didn't have access to such system at the time anymore.

Yep, that's the problem. The older versions of the library (the one used by the
plugin I have sent you already) didn't use Boost, so there was no such issue.
