Hi Ning,

I'm aware of a number of different groups in China using the OSG, and
understand the challanges in learning and using the websites and the
code in something other than your first language. I've also learnt
about website access problems from Chinnese users.

We are about to move the openscenegraph.org server across from the US
to Europe. Provision of a mirror of this server, or at least the
website would be something I'm open to, but I'm won't be the web
administartor so can't speak on their behalf for volunterring such
support.

In terms of reproducing the website and translating into Chinese, this
is another challenge. Keeping it up to date will be a further
challenge. Is there any chance of using something like bablefish to
translate existing pages on the fly?

No doubt other nations that English is not their first language would
also desire website support in their native language. Perhaps it'll
be possible to host website translation on the new sever, I don't know
how other websites go about multi-language support, the fact we use a
wiki adds another twist.

This deserves an open debate on how one might takle it. I'm certainly
open to having mirrors and translations of OSG materials, but need
input and time from members of the community to make it happen.

W.r.t extension to the OSG, this is easy, elements can be developed
out in the community and when ready submitted for inclusion if
appropriate. This is how the OSG has always developed so no need for
any new systems for that.

We are the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering In Surveying,
Mapping and Remote Sensing (LESMARS) in Wuhan University, at present, one of
our interested research areas is 3D modeling and real-time rendering based
on the large scenes (for example, cities, districts, marine) about the
spatial information. we find that OSG is such a very useful tool that we are
actively studying OSG and its advanced technology to render greater scope of
3D terrain.

At present, China has a number of groups or individuals are using it. We
want to let more people understand it, use it and then improve it. So that
it may become more perfect. However, because of some questions (earthquake,
etc.), the domestic staffs are interrupted to visit the official website of
OSG, which has brought us a definite impact. Therefore, we plan to make a
web site mirror and have prepared a Chinese domain name
www.openscenegraph.com.cn. Meanwhile, we will translate some of the key
documents into Chinese, and establish the Chinese community to discuss the
OSG, which, we believe, is convenient for Chinese to understand the powerful
capability of OSG and facilitate the use of domestic users.
What's more, we will do some further improvements of OSG in the field of
Geographic using the results of our lab, and we will make every effort to
solve the problem of the huge amount of geospatial data in the fast 3D
modeling and visualization and real-time rendering. We hope that OSG will
develop well in china and have a better expansion in the application of
geographic information.
