I don't recall ever having had trouble building DLLs with VC++2005 Express. Did
you follow the instructions for installing the Platform SDK and modifying
VC++'s config files, as outlined here?

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/visualc/usingpsdk/

That's step 4 of the main VC++2005 Express install instructions, which are here:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/visualc/download/

That last link also has a link to the VC++2005 Express Service Pack 1, which I
also installed. If you have done all this, then I don't know. You could try it
again, see if any of the build configs for OSG have changed since you last
tried.

Note that I first tried with the Express Edition about 3 months ago (before the
X-Mas vacation) and it worked for me then as well. So I honestly don't know
what the problem could be on your side.

All this is described at the Platform Specifics - Visual Studio wiki page. Each
time I recompile, if I need to change anything I update that page. If you find
out what the problem was on your side, you could add a note to that page
describing what you had to change to make it work. The edit link is at the
bottom, the password is osg .

Good luck,
