I'm afraid I can't provide much guidance on what might be wrong, I'd
have to be able recreate the usage style and the problem first hand.
One possible alternative for you is to look at the new osgViewer
library, its manages the has a computeIntersections method which is
similiar, but not implemented in quite the same way so may avoid
problems that you are seeing, but since I don't know what is amiss I
can't say if osgViewer would solve it.
