I hope not to sound too much like a marketing speech, and I definately
don't want to get into a flame war over which format is better on this
mailing list (but if anyone wants to bring it you can at
www.collada.org), but have you looked into the COLLADA standard format?
It's a royalty free open source format that has been gaining a lot of
adoption recently. It has the features FBX does, and most importantly
for your current situation, there is COLLADA import and export plugin
for OSG.
If this format is completely news to you then you can find more info at
www.khronos.org/collada or the collada.org forums, or email me directly.
I wouldn't want to go into deep discussion about something that isn't
OSG on this mailing list.

Again, sorry if it sounds too much like advertisement. I'm just trying
to tell Michael about another option he's got.
