I recently asked OSG users for recommendations for a laptop and
eventually purchased a Dell M90 after some recommendations (thanks to
those that responded).
I am pleased with the hardware but had serious problems with Vista
Ultimate. In particular I got the "Windows Explorer has stooped working"
dialog, which has a restart button, which leads into an infinite loop!
Try the error message in a search engine and you will see there is no
one reason and no consistent fix.
Dell did not blink when I said I wanted to replace Vista with XP Pro.
I have been told, but do not know the accuracy of this, that Vista has
some form of Direct X software emulation of OpenGL. I would expect that
graphics card drivers would override this situation. Does anyone know
more about it?

OSG and Vista 64
Hello everyone, sorry to bring this up again but I wanted to get some
of your experiences using the latest OSG with Vista 64 bit edition.
The last substantial thread I read on the subject was dated late
February. Results seemed mixed then. I'm wondering how everyone is
getting along now.
I'm considering making several large hardware purchases and I have to
decide between XP-64 or Vista-64. I need the extra RAM that a 64-bit
OS provides (can't use Linux for this project.) The hardware itself
will be from Dell. I'm looking at purchasing quad-core systems to take
advantage of osgViewer's multi-thread model..well that and other
reasons.
