You are correct.  Thanks for the explanation - it does mean things are working 
normally but it also means that where I was hoping the Cygwin hangs might be 
related to a simple file type issue that they are really related to what we 
have thought all along - some object being left hanging in Cygwin.  Probably 
(in my wild guess) to the fact they are more complicated structures and timing 
or threading is more of an issue.
