I'm not against using a shader, I just don't know how.  :-)  I have
tried using a shader, but to no avail as the moving eyepoint is
something I don't yet know how to account for.  Plus, all I've been able
to do so far is change the color.  I'd like to keep the underlying
imagery, just change the "hue" so to speak.  

I hadn't thought about the multitexturing.  Is the osgtexture1D a good
example then?
