You can always add a World file into the folder where your image lives to georeference the png file. GDAL recognises them. The following extract may help.

World files are small text files (they simply contain 6 numbers) that contain the information on how to transform from pixel co-ordinates of the image to a map grid system. They must be stored in the same folder as the image file and are identified by having the same name as the image file with a modified qualifier (extension) comprising the first and third letter of the image file qualifier plus the letter "W". Therefore the World file for the image file IMAGE.BMP would be IMAGE.BPW. Bitmap World files (*.BPW) are not in general use, and tiff or jpeg World files are more common, having qualifiers TFW and JGW respectively. The generic qualifier "WLD" is sometimes used. Note, however, that the contents of a World file for the same image stored in different formats are exactly the same. The following is an example World file (the comments on the right are not part of the file).

5.000000 pixel size in metres in the X or West-East direction
0.0 rotation term
0.0 rotation term
-5.000000 pixel size in metres in the Y or North-South direction
360002.500000 West-East location of the centre of the top-left pixel
419997.500000 South-North location of the centre of the top-left pixel

Note that the fourth value is negative because pixel co-ordinates are zero at the top left and specified positive downward while the north south axis of the grid system is positive upwards. Also the top left pixel co-ordinates are the centre of the pixel and not its top and left edge.

Hello,

I'm trying to build an high definition model with osgdem but I get this error when trying to add texture data :

ERROR 1: Unable to compute a transformation between pixel/line
and georeferenced coordinates for ../128K_BMNG/level5/tx_0_1.png.
There is no affine transformation and no GCPs.
Failed to reproject../128K_BMNG/level5/tx_0_1.png

any idea where this could be coming from ?

Manu.
