Hmm, well, what do OSG users do when they want a Manipulator that stops moving the scene when you stop moving the mouse? Do they make a custom Manipulator? Am I missing something obvious? OSG is extremely unique in it's default choice of mouse manipulator (at least, compared to other 3D engines), and I was personally surprised to find my scene kept moving when I stopped moving the mouse. Of course, over the last few months I've gotten used to it, but my roommates and co-workers and whatnot still find it troublesome when I'm showing them demos and OSG apps and whatnot...
I created my own manipulator because I wanted a more constrained view of my model than any of the standard manipulators provided. It was not hard.
On another note: I also noticed the errant throwing of models using the built-in manipulator. This used to annoy me as well when I used the standard manipulator, so my custom manipulator doesn't throw at all. I'm glad to see that it's been addressed.
