Hi,

I didn't know about existing tickets but that's the reason I'm popping
up here :)

#218 looks like exactly what I'll be working on, albeit not
specifically for osgeo4w; but I'd be happy to work with you to fix
this. Are you the mapnik maintainer for osgeo4w?

No, I'm just a simple mapnik user...
FYI, we made some work in the Orfeo Toolbox to play with the mapnik c++ API, that's the reason for this ticket.
No hurry on this #218 ticket.
This is not a showstopper for OTB integration in osgeo4w on which we would like to work soon...

I'm cc'ing the two OTB developers who worked the most on this, they might have more feedback on the ease of use of the mapnik binary packages.

How does it work in
general, are there specific people responsible for specific packages,
or is it one for all and all for one?

In the mapnik trac itself, there are #122 and #410 that seem related;
is anyone here affiliated with those?

I saw your mail to the mapnik mailing list back then, I'll look into
this; part of my work will be on making the api consistent, including
across bindings.
I think it's been reported by someone else from another project.
A more general question: do the osgeo4w packages focus on cygwin/mingw
or Visual Studio builds, too? Is there an introduction I can read for
devs to get up to speed, apart from the trac wiki
I asked myself the same question when I read the wiki a while ago.
If Visual Studio is preferred, what is the preferred version ?

It seems like OSGeo4W is made out of several heterogenous compilers.
I'm surprised there is so little (not a single ?) "runtime library incompatibility hell"...

One line or two in the Wiki on this would be great !

Cheers,
Julien

cheers,

roel

Hello,

First of all : congratulations for your GSoC project !

I'm probably whipping a dead horse here, but I hope one of the results of
your work will be having a solution to the #218 ticket (being able to use
the mapnik C++ API with only osgeo4w packages).

We also ran into troubles setting up fonts files necessary for mapnik to
render its map. If those can be integrated to the mapnik binary package with
some sort of default paths management so that we don't have to bother with
these from external projects, that would be great... A related report here :

Good luck for your project !

Dear all,

I'm a student who's been accepted into Google Summer of Code to work
on mapnik, and specifically the build system and builds for Windows.
We discussed the inclusion of mapnik in osgeo4w and I'd like to get
into contact with the maintainer of mapnik package in there, to see if
there's any work we can share/reuse. Thanks!

cheers,

roel
