Ex: What's different about the osgeo4w python as compared to a standard python 27 install?
Very little. All I did was install py2.7 the usual way, compare with the o4w py2.5 tree, and then copy over, details here:

I imagine one could do something similar for wxpython but I don't know how to test that the result is correct.
