I'm having trouble reproducing this too.
QGIS is launching fine from the start menu and double clicking existing
project files. But often hangs (not always though...) from the desktop
icon or the osgeo4w terminal.
Not sure if it's related to certain RDP clients, so I think it's OK to
close till I can really figure out what's going on.
