What does the application do and how does it add value to the GeoSpatial? stack
of software? The Re3gistry software is a reusable open-source solution for
managing and sharing ‘reference codes’ through the use of persistent URIs,
ensuring concepts are correctly referenced in any domain. Reference codes can
be used in data exchange between applications to uniquely reference some
‘thing’. They can be used to define sets of permissible values for a data field
or to provide a reference or context for the data being exchanged. Examples are
enumerations, controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, thesauri or, simply, ‘lists
of things’. The Re3gistry can provide a central access point that allows labels
and descriptions for reference codes to be easily looked-up by humans or
retrieved by machines. Furthermore, it supports organisations in managing and
updating reference codes in a consistent way, so that reference codes do not
change or simply disappear over time, but all versions of the codes remain
traceable and properly documented. The Re3gistry has been mainly used in the
context of the INSPIRE directive, but can be used in other fields.
* Does the application make use of OGC standards? Which versions of the
standards? Client or server? You may wish to add comments about how standards
are used. No OGC Standards – the Re3gistry follows ISO19135 Geographic
information — Procedures for item registration.
* What language is it written in? Java, HTML5, JavaScript
* Which version of the application should be included in the next
OSGeo-Live release? Registry v2.0.0
* Stability is very important to us on OSGeo-Live. If a new user finds a
bug in one application, it will tarnish the reputation of all other OSGeo-Live
applications as well. (We pay most attention to the following answers):
* If risk adverse organisations have deployed your application into
production, it would imply that these organisations have verified the stability
of your software. Has the application been rolled out to production into risk
(ideally risk adverse) organisations? Please mention some of these
organisations? The Re3gistry software has been primarily used by the European
Commission – Joint Research Centre (JRC) as one of the central software
components for the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive (implementation
available at https://inspire.ec.europa.eu/registry). It has also been used in
production by a number of governmental organizations in the European Union (EU)
Member States as well as companies beyond the EU, e.g.:

* Open HUB<https://www.openhub.net/> provides metrics to help assess the
health of a project. Eg:

ensure that your project is registered with Open HUB, and Open HUB has been
updated to reference the correct code repository(s) for your project. What is
the Open HUB URL for your project? The project will be registered on Open HUB
before the formal application.
* What is the size of the user community? You can often answer this by
mentioning downloads, or describing a healthy, busy email list? The community
using the Re3gistry is (at least) the INSPIRE user community, which is composed
by 7000+ organisations in EU Member states. The software (v.1.3.1) has been
re-used and installed in production by at least 10 EU Member States (see above).
* What is the size of your developer community? The latest version
(2.0.0) of the software was developed by a team of developers from the JRC and
the National Land Survey (NLS) of Finland.
* Do you have a bug free, stable release? V. 2.0.0 of the software has
been recently released (July 2020). It is a stable release but we can’t be 100%
sure it is bug free.
* Please discuss the level of testing that your project has gone
through. The latest release (v. 2.0.0) of the software has undertaken internal
testing (users from JRC B.6 unit) and a “Testbed” where all the interested EU
Member States were involved.
* How long has the project has had mature code. Version 1.3.1 is mature
since 2017. Version 2.0 has just been released.
* OSGeo-Live is targeted at applications that people can use rather than
libraries. Does the application have a user interface (possibly a command line
interface) that a user can interact with? (We do make an exception for
Incubated OSGeo Libraries, and will include Project Overviews for these
libraries, even if they don't have a user interface.) Yes, it has a web
interface.
* We give preference to OSGeo Incubated Projects, or Projects which are
presented at FOSS4G<http://foss4g.org> conferences. If your project is involved
in OSGeo Incubation, or has been selected to be presented at FOSS4G, then
please mention it. The project has been only included in a presentation on the
INSPIRE open source software stack given at FOSS4G-IT (the Italian FOSS4G
conference) in 2019, titled “INSPIRE ecosystem: geospatial interoperability
with open source software and open standards”, accessible at

* With around 50 applications installed on OSGeo-Live, us core packagers do
not have the time to liaise with every single project email list for each
OSGeo-Live release. So we require a volunteer (or two) to take responsibility
for liaising between OSGeo-Live and the project's communities. This volunteer
will be responsible for ensuring the install scripts and English documentation
are updated by someone for each OSGeo-Live release. Also test that the
installed application and Quickstart documentation works as expected on release
candidate releases of OSGeo-Live. Who will act as the project's liaison person.

* OSGeo-Live is Ubuntu Linux based. Our installation preference is:
* Install from UbuntuGIS or DebianGIS
* Install .deb files from a PPA
* Write a custom install script <=
Can you please discuss how your application will be installed.
* OSGeo-Live is memory and disk constrained. Can the application run in 512
Meg of RAM? Yes
* How much disk space will be required to install the application and a
suitable example application? ~100mb
* We aim to reduce disk space by having all applications make use of a
common dataset. We encourage applications to make use of the example datasets
already installed:

dataset would be more appropriate, please discuss here. Is it appropriate, to
remove existing demo datasets which may already be included in the standard
release.
* Each OSGeo-Live application requires a Project Overview available under a
CC By<http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/> and a Quickstart available
under a CC By-SA<http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/> license. (You
may release under a second license as well). Will you produce this? Yes.
* In past releases, we have included Windows and Mac installers for some
applications. It is likely we won't have space for these in future releases.
However, if there is room, would you be wishing to include Windows and/or Mac
installers? No
