Not so long ago I discovered another such pseudo-random hack lurking in (at least one JavaSE implementation of) RMI: at a certain point it gambles on "the closest non-bootstrap class loader on the call stack", halleluja. <https://labs.oracle.com/techrep/2006/smli_tr-2006-149.pdf> It's everywhere.
