Who is the intended caller of the Ad.validate() function? Application code making use of the Metatype Service API to build the configuration UI. I just want to understand that it's not the job of metatype to validate the configuration made via config admin, correct? Correct: Configuration Admin just takes the properties it is provided with and persists and distributes them. As such ConfigurationAdmin does not care for the MetaType service at all and does not know anything about it. — apart from the Configuration Admin specified configuration limitations to make sure the configurations can be described with the MetaType service.
