October 27, GovExec - New management directives on the way for DHS. Homeland Security Department (DHS) officials are preparing to issue new directives governing five key management areas, DHS Deputy Secretary James Loy said Wednesday, October 27. The directives govern the department's operations in the areas of financial management, human resources, acquisition, administrative services and information technology. Loy said managers should recognize the value of approaching jobs methodically, rather than trying to rush an outcome. For example, DHS is required to complete a national plan for critical infrastructure and key resources protection by December 2004. Loy said that the government has spent more than three years preparing the plan and that an interim infrastructure protection plan will be submitted to the president on December 17.
