01. Bomb kills two, hurts 30 in Bangladesh
Reuters

DHAKA, Jan 27 (Reuters) - A bomb exploded at an opposition rally in
northeastern Bangladesh on Thursday, killing two people and wounding
at least 30, police and witnesses said.

The blast rocked the Awami League rally at Laskarpur, about 250 km
(150 miles) from the capital, Dhaka.

A spokesman for the main opposition party said former finance
minister Shah Kibria who was sitting on the dais at the rally was
seriously wounded and being transported to Dhaka for treatment.

Awami chief Sheikh Hasina, a former prime minister, narrowly escaped
injury when at least three grenades exploded at a rally she was
addressing in Dhaka last Aug. 21. Twenty-three people were killed in
that attack, and hundreds were wounded.

Police were investigating whether Thursday's bomb had been planted
earlier at the rally site or been thrown from outside.
