Iran for tech transfer with India in biosciences, IT

Hyderabad, Feb 10 (PTI) Iran proposes collaboration with India for
technology transfer in the areas of biosciences and IT as also for human
resource training by way of qualified Indian technocrats and scientists
joining universities and research centres there.
The country is a first-time participant at the ongoing BioAsia meet
here.

National Research Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
director Md Hussain Sannathi told PTI that Iran could offer technologies
like recombinant protein for pharmaceutical use and for combating
malaria.

In exchange, India was in a position to lend its expertise in areas like
recombinant protein and diagnositcs kits for genetic and infectious
diseases, different types of cancer treatment and production of
transgenic plant technology, Dr Sannathi said.

He also proposed a student exchange programme and tapping of India's
trained manpower who were "ready to go to Iran". It was conducting
various workshops and seminars in this regard, he added.

Iran was making progress in biosciences and its government had
identified the three core fields of biotechnology, nanotechnology and
IT, Dr Sannathi said.

Since biosciences was a priority, the government had made efforts to
focus on pharmaceutical products, transgenic plants resistant to drought
and salinity and biotech products for food and human genetic diseases
highly prevalent there, he added. PTI
