Police in the Philippines have found and defused explosive devices outside
the Spanish embassy building in the capital, Manila.

As Peter Lloyd reports an Easter weekend terrorist alert remains in force
amid concern that Islamic extremists may be planning to carry out attacks on
Christian celebrations.

Reports from Manila say that ten members of regional terror group Jemaah
Islamiyah along with members of local extremists the Abu Sayyef may be
planning bomb attacks in Manila. The warning was issued after the arrest of
an Indonesian member of JI who claimed a terrorist plot for the later stages
of March was unfolding in several cities. 15 thousand police officers are
guarding key installations and churches across the capital. Australia's
Foreign Affairs department updated its travel advisory in response to
reports that terrorists may be in the final stages of planning an attack. It
went close to telling Australians to avoid travel to the Philippines. The US
and Britain have issued similar advisories.
