Alleged terror group under close watch Posted 07:05am (Mla time) April 01, 2005 By Joel Francis Guinto INQ7.net Get INQ7 breaking news on your Smart mobile phone in the Philippines. Send INQ7 BREAKING to 386. POLICE have placed the Islamic militant group Rajah Solaiman Movement (RSM)under surveillance amid allegations that its members were involved in the Holy Week bomb plot, the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday. This developed after the Quezon City Regional Trial Court allowed arrested RSM member Tyrone Santos, also known as Daud Santos, to post bail. Santos, however, remained under military custody. "The Rajah Solaiman is now under a tight watch," Director General Arturo Lomibao told a news conference in Camp Crame. Santos' case underscored the need to pass a law against terrorism, Metro Manila police chief Director Avelino Razon Jr. said. "(An anti-terrorism law) would certainly be a great help," Razon said. Under present laws, terror suspects are charged only with illegal possession of explosives or firearms, all bailable offenses. Military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Buenaventura Pascual said the Armed Forces "is doing all legal means" to keep Santos detained at the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) compound in Camp Aguinaldo. "He might continue his terroristic activities once he gets bail. This is for the security of all of us," Pascual said in a text message sent to reporters. After Santos' arrest, authorities seized 10 sacks of explosives from a safehouse in Quezon City's Fairview district believed to augment terror activities of the Abu Sayyaf and the Jemaah Islamiyah.
