Al Qaida contractor threatens rulers of Arab states who obey U.S.

CAIRO A leading Al Qaida-aligned group has warned it will launch
attacks on Arab leaders.
The Salafist Brigade for Combat and Call warned that it would attack
pro-U.S. Arab leaders and their governments. The group said the
Salafists would take revenge against anybody who obeys Israel or the
United States.

The brigade posted its warning on the Internet during the Arab League
summit in Algiers. The Salafist Brigade has been regarded as the
largest Islamic insurgency group in North Africa but has rarely
discussed anything beyond its base in Algeria.

"The apostate rulers have proved at every catastrophe that they are
the roots of affliction and the symbols of treachery," Salafist leader
Abu Mussab Abdul Ouadud said. "They are the seed of collaboration sown
by the Zionist-Christian alliance in the body of the nation. The
downtrodden nation is marching with firm steps to wreak revenge on you
and avenge the blood of its sons whom you have offered as sacrificial
victims to America."

The Salafist statement did not specifically threaten the Arab League
summit, which ended without incident on Wednesday. Algeria deployed
thousands of police around the capital to protect foreign Arab
delegations.

The Salafist Brigade underwent changes in 2004 amid Algeria's military
offensive. These included the reshuffling of the Salafist leadership,
currently headed by Ouadud, an explosives expert.
The Salafist Brigade was believed to have links with the Islamic
insurgency movement in Iraq. Salafist operatives have been recruited
for the insurgency war in Iraq.

A new insurgency group, the Salafist Mujaheed Brigades, has announced
its establishment in Iraq in a move that Islamic sources said was
linked to Iraqi intelligence. The sources said Baghdad might have
formed the Salafist group in an attempt to infiltrate the Sunni
insurgency in Iraq.
