N Korea suspends work of its only nuclear reactor TOKYO, April 18 (Itar-Tass) - North Korea has shot down its only operating nuclear reactor in Yongbyon, director of the North American Affairs Department of the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Kim Suk has said, according to reports coming form Seoul. According to specialists, this may mean Pyongyang has launched the preparation for the retrieval of fuel rods from the reactor for obtaining weapons grade plutonium. Kim Suk said several sources have confirmed the reactor has been shut down. The official nevertheless added the situation needs further analysis. The press earlier quoted U.S. sources claiming that Pyongyang began in early April to retrieve fuel rods from the Yongbyon reactor. According to U.S. estimates, North Korea can already have at least two nuclear warheads. -- A little masochism never hurt anyone. -- Unknown ------------------------ Yahoo!
