Russian general confirms new missile A senior Russian general has confirmed Moscow's development of a low-trajectory intercontinental ballistic missile designed to thwart U.S. missile defenses. In a speech published last week Col. Gen. Varfolomey Korobushin, first vice president of the Academy of Military Sciences, said Russia needs to upgrade its missile warning capabilities and develop multiple-warhead missiles with depressed trajectories to maintain a credible nuclear deterrent force. Russia needed missile "long-duration flat trajectories that are variable." U.S. intelligence officials have said Moscow has conducted several flight tests in the past two years on such weapons, which may involve use of high-altitude scramjet technology. Korobushin also said Russian strategic forces need better sea-based nuclear-armed cruise missiles with warheads that are protected against electronic warfare disruption techniques. ------------------------ Yahoo!
