Colombia: Bombing looks like IRA work
By UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL

BOGOTA, Colombia -- A recent bombing by Colombia's leftist rebels
displays all the earmarks of techniques learned from the Irish
Republican Army, Gen. Carlos Ospina says.
The general was referring to a bombing attack by the Revolutionary
Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, back in February, the BBC reported.

Ospina said the attack showed elements of style and execution
learned from three IRA members who allegedly trained the FARC in
bombing techniques and other modes of warfare.
Colombia sentenced Niall Connolly, James Monaghan and Martin
McCauley to 17 years in prison in December 2004. However, they fled
soon after their convictions and remain at large.
The three are believed to have left the country. Colombian
continues to inquire if any nation is harboring them.
The Colombian government alleged the men were representatives of
the IRA on a mission to establish ties with FARC, an accusation they
denied.
Colombia has been embroiled in more than four decades of civil war
that pits the leftist rebels against the government and the
paramilitaries.
