(5/25/2005): Skokie man taken hostage in Iraq
Family holds out hope he's alive

By Stacey Baca
May 25, 2005 - A man who spent several years in suburban Skokie was taken
hostage in Iraq. An al-Qaeda Web site reports that Neenus Khoshaba was
killed. His family, who still lives in the area, is holding out hope.
Khoshaba was grabbed outside his apartment in Baghdad on May 17. Khoshaba, a
businessman, was headed to a meeting when he was taken captive. The family
believes it was a set up.

"If he was killed, we haven't seen the body. And we're just praying and
hoping he's not dead," said Aladin Khamis, Khoshaba's cousin.

The Web site has pictures of Khoshaba's Illinois driver's license and a
British Airways Executive Club card. Al-Qaeda calls Khoshaba an American
pilot who took part in the invasion of Iraq. The Web site said Khoshaba
bombed a Baghdad hotel. His family denies he was military.

"He was not pilot, nor was he ever -- I know for a fact he was not a pilot.
A very good person," said Khamis.

The U.S. State Department launched an investigation and released this
statement.

Khoshaba came to the Chicagoland area in the 1960's to study computer
science. He then moved to Saudi Arabia, where he worked for a company in
that field. When his wife was diagnosed with leukemia, Khoshaba came back to
Skokie. He moved to Baghdad to be near other family members a couple of
years ago after his wife died.
