_____ AL-ARISH, Egypt - Egyptian security forces said Wednesday they were giving up the hunt for a group of heavily-armed men suspected of involvement in deadly bombings in Sinai resorts last year. They decided to end their pursuit after the suspects fled into the rugged mountains of the central Sinai desert, a security source said, adding: "They have disappeared." The security forces could not pursue the heavily-armed suspects on to the 2,000-metre (6,560 feet) Al-Halal Mountain because of the 1979 peace treaty with Israel which bars them from using the necessary equipment, the source said. Last week, clashes between Egyptian forces and suspects in the centre of the Red Sea peninsula left a policeman and a gunman dead after a massive police operation in the area. Thirty-four people, including several Israeli tourists, were killed and more than 10 wounded on October 7 in triple bomb attacks on the Hilton Hotel Taba and two other neighbouring resorts. Two suspects are to appear before an emergency state security court on July 2 for their role in the attack.
