Picture: Courtesy of Getty 7 July 2005: At 8:49 AM London time, a series of near-simultaneous explosions ripped through the London transit system, striking both street-level buses and underground subways and subway stations. The first blast took place shortly before 9 am at Aldgate; additional blasts followed in rapid succession. There are almost certainly multiple casualties; until first responders can enter the subway tubes where people are trapped, accurate estimates of the number killed and injured are not available. There were harbingers of this attack on the jihadi boards in recent days. As readers of the HQ INTEL ALERT will recall from our special alert last week, the new Iranian president had promised as part of his campaign to bring the bloodshed of Iraq to western cities. Based on celebratory postings on the Arabic language message boards frequented by Al Qaeda and its supporters, a high level of caution is urged for the US and other coalition partners, especially Australia, Italy and Denmark. ********** Claim of Responsibility The Islamic Terrorist Organization "Secret Organization Group of Al Qaeda of Jihad Organization in Europe" claims responsibility for the multiple explosions that rocked London during rush hour early this morning. According to their statement, "Britain is burning with fear," and "The heroic mujahidin have carried out a blessed raid in London. "Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters." ********** Suspects "Plentiful" in London All Muslim, All Terrorists, All al Qaeda Related - PERIOD. SAAD RASHED MOHAMMAD AL-FAQIH Sa'ad Rashed Mohammad Al-Fagih has been associated with al Qaeda since the mid-1990's. In late 2004, he was named a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the United States as he provided logistical support for the 1998 embassy bombings in Africa. Since September 11, 2001, Al-Fagih has been leading the cause of global jihad through his Internet web sites from the UK. London , UK based Mohammed Al-Massari's Islamic terrorist group, the Tajdeed/Committee for the Defense of Legitimate Rights organization celebrates attacks. As reported in last week's HQ INTEL-ALERT, al Massari has been soliciting funding for terrorist attacks in the UK, US and other western countries. ********** On Trial in the UK 7 July 2005: Radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri went on trial in London on Tuesday on charges that include encouraging the murder of Jews and other non-Muslims. He faces trial on 15 counts, including nine of soliciting to murder. Most of those counts accuse him of encouraging the murder of non-Muslims but one charges him with soliciting the murder of Jewish people. The Egyptian-born cleric - who has one eye and hooks for hands, which he says were lost fighting Soviet troops in Afghanistan in the 1980's, was arrested in May after U.S. authorities charged him with trying to establish a terrorist training camp in the western U.S. state of Oregon, involvement in hostage-taking in Yemen and funding terrorism training in Afghanistan. The United States plans to resume the extradition case once he is convicted or cleared of the British charges. He also faces four counts of using threatening or abusive language designed to stir racial hatred, one count of possessing threatening or abusive recordings and one count of possessing a document likely to be useful in terrorism - the Encyclopedia of the Afghani Jihad. -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
