LAST JOURNEY FOR TRAGIC BOMB BUS 09:59 - 17 July 2005 Half its original size, the bus destroyed by the Tavistock Square bomb was removed from the scene. Wrapped in blue tarpaulins and ropes and straps it was lifted onto a low-loader before being taken away. It was escorted by police from the site of the blast at the start of its journey to a forensic laboratory in Kent. The hundred forensic, specialist investigators and victim identification officers watched sombrely as the wreckage was driven off. Tavistock Square remained closed as investigators completed their finger-tip search of the gardens, trees and roofs of the buildings near the scene of the explosion. Police hope it will be open as normal by Monday morning. At the scene of the explosion, most of the debris has been cleared away but the smell of disinfectant cannot quite erase the distinct smell of blood. Windows shattered in the blast have been mostly boarded up, particularly those of the British Medical Association building. Thirteen people - including the teenage bomber Hasib Hussain - died in the bus attack on July 7. The No 68 and No 59 buses, which narrowly escaped the attack, remained in the road close to the bomb blast. One has been commandeered by police for storage. -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
