Tragedy befell hundreds of British families resulting from a set of near-synchronised explosions that rocked the London Underground train system and a number 30 bus. Over 50 people died, scores more were seriously injured and hundreds more suffered the psychological scares that would ail any human being directly caught up in such a mass mangling of mettle and loss of life. The attacks indiscriminately targeted common people of one of the most diverse cities in the world. While the emergency services were still rescuing people from the wreckage and before the police had presented any opinion on the perpetrators of the bombing, members of the G8 had already decided that "Islamist" terrorists were to blame. Further they took the opportunity to denigrate Islam and promote their own agenda. We will not yield to these terrorists. We will find them and bring them to justice and at the same time we will spread an ideology of hope and compassion that will overwhelm their ideology of hate. (George Bush at Gleneagles, Scotland 7 July 2005) Whilst Muslims in Britain were expected to condemn more strongly than others, shed more tears than others, and apologise with more sincerity than others, these architects of the bloodshed in Baghdad and Basra, Bush and Blair, were allowed to capitalise upon the carnage. Bush spoke of the terrorists "ideology of hate." Tony Blair, said "Our determination to defend our values and ways of life is greater than their desire to create death and destruction and impose extremism on the world." It seemed unimportant to Bush and Blair that due process be allowed to take place before blame be apportioned. They had an agenda to push, and they could not wait for the facts to become apparent before they pushed it. Their agenda was to blur the line between the ideology of Islam and "terrorism". The wonton wasting of lives is anathema to Islam. Whereas considering Islam to be a complete way of life with a political system which incorporates a call and a challenge to those that follow capitalism, communism or the Quraishite Council is something that every Muslim relates to. We do not shy away from the word challenge, even in this current climate. Because the challenge of Islam does not imply violence, but rather an intellectual confrontation of ideas, values, principals and practices, being pitched against the ideas and values of the prevailing world order. This way of life, that we call for, has a moral code for individuals, a structured series of rituals for worship and a political system for the welfare of citizens that dwell within its domain, be they non Muslims or Muslim. The Khilafah is the system of Islam, which upholds the rules of Islam. It protects the political, intellectual and economic rights of its citizens and seeks to spread Islam to the rest of the world. It is not a system that desires to create death or destruction. It is no more tenacious in it's following of its fundamental creed than the West is extreme in adhering to secularism. It is not an ideology of hate but is an ideology of truth, dignity and justice for Muslim and non-Muslim. It seeks to produce peace and tranquillity on earth. The ideology of Islam is very simple in its basis. It is that the entire universe and all human beings were created by One Creator, Allah (swt). This one Creator sent messengers to all people, ending with Muhammed (saw) with a final message for all mankind until the end of time. From this message are derived the rules and regulations, obligations and prohibitions that are needed to live life in justice and harmony, irrespective of arbitrary differences between people. The ideology of Islam abhors the victimisation of the weak and the innocent, and the careless wastage of innocent life without justice or reason. This is why week after week and year after year in the pages of this journal, the injustices and destruction of innocent lives in the Islamic and non-Islamic developing world by the colonial powers has been highlighted. Furthermore the truth about the plans of the colonialist powers to protect their material interests in the Islamic and non-Islamic developing world, regardless of the suffering and poverty of the people of those lands has been exposed. The lies that they have told and are telling the world regarding their foreign and domestic policies are shown for the deception that they are. In the last few years, much of their planning and intellectual energy has been engaged in discrediting the Islamic Ideology as a way of life for the modern world. They have invested time in spreading their propaganda that Islam oppresses women and that the penal code in Islam is barbaric. However most of these discussions are largely historical. Today the term terrorism is their main weapon against Islam and it is used with astonishing frequency. Many of the statements being made by prominent politicians in the aftermath of the London bombings, talked of the ideological battle and of the superiority and longevity of Western values. They have also spoken of the brutality and inhumanity of the ideology of the "terrorists." Tony Blair said "It is through terrorism that the people who have committed this terrible act express their values and it is right at this moment that we demonstrate ours." "It is not an attack on one nation, but on all nations and on all civilized people everywhere." "We will defeat those who would impose their fanaticism and extremism on all of us. We will prevail and they shall not," he said. George Bush called the ideology of the "terrorists" an "ideology of hate." What is this fanatic, extremist ideology of hate that these "terrorists" seek to impose over all of mankind? What are the values that these people hold that manifest themselves in reality as murder and mayhem? The ideology they are seeking to slander is the ideology of Islam. There is no other special ideology that the "terrorists" hold. Thus, the major political leaders want to equate the Islamic ideology with terrorism. That is not to say that they seek to demonise Muslims as a whole, but rather those who propose an Islamic ideology as an alternative to Western Capitalism. Those Muslims who are happy with secular life and do not pursue a system based on what Allah (swt) sent with his Messenger are perfectly acceptable. Those who pursue such a system, whether through peaceful or violent means, are not. This is the challenge that is now faced by the Ummah as a whole in the aftermath of such attacks. Muslims all over the world condemn and hate indiscriminate acts of violence and suffer a great deal of shame when such acts are attributed to Islam, not because they share some blame, but because they hate that the word of Allah (swt) be associated with such actions. At the same time however, Muslims from East to West believe in the Qur'an, and desire political unity in the form of an ideological Islamic State, and believe it to be the solution to their problems. In other words, multitudes of Muslims from East to West believe in the ideals of the Islamic Ideology. It is all of these people that the Western leaders want to demonise with their rhetoric and their policies, such that the ground will be laid clear for a ruthless witch hunt in which every last ideological Muslim will be eradicated leaving no opposition to the spread of Western Secularism all over the Islamic world. There is no Islamic terrorist ideology. There is no Islamist "evil" ideology. There is an Islamic ideology and some who advocate immediate military confrontation with agitating Western powers. Perspective is needed. It is not the Islamic ideology that spawned two world wars, nor most of the regional conflicts that have claimed the lives of millions during the 20th century. It is not the Islamic ideology that has established unfair trade practices, debt and the exploitation of the poorest parts of the world leading to epidemic poverty, malnutrition and disease in those areas. It is not the Islamic ideology that spawned the first or second gulf wars with greater than 120 000 dead, more than half of them women or children under the age of 12. It is not the Islamic ideology that gave birth to Western style slavery, to apartheid in South Africa or the "as good as" apartheid in Israel/Palestine. It is Western ideological Capitalism and nationalism that spawned all of the above while its proponents claimed otherwise. The so-called Islamist terrorist ideologues - if such people really exist - are amateurs in comparison to the systematic world wide suffering manufactured by the rich and powerful in the Western ideological capitalist world. Western leaders with their hands still dripping with blood have some nerve to call other ideologies hateful or evil. They now seek to increase in their deception and tarnish the Islamic ideology itself with the allegation of extremism and terrorism. This is a lie and neither Muslims or non-Muslims should fall for it. Muslims must have confidence that their ideology is the truth and should not fall into the trap of compromising their beliefs due to the lies of proven liars. Allah (swt) said, وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لاَ تُفْسِدُواْ ; فِي الأَرْضِ قَالُواْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ ; أَلا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْمُفْسِدُ ;ونَ وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَشْعُرُونَ ; وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ آمِنُواْ كَمَا آمَنَ النَّاسُ قَالُواْ أَنُؤْمِنُ كَمَا آمَنَ السُّفَهَاء ; أَلا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ السُّفَهَاء ; وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَعْلَمُونَ ; When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "Why, we only Want to make peace!" Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realise (it) not. When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say: "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2.11-2.13) Secondly, the only solution to Western inspired violence and terrorism against the world is the establishment of the Khilafah. It is this state that will be able to counterbalance the Machiavellian tendencies of the Western powers and restrain their hands when they seek to exploit and rob whether politically, economically or militarily from the poorest people in the world and to maintain dictatorships for their material interests. It is this state that will have the authority over Muslims to ensure that they do not stray from an acceptable understanding of Jihad, consistent with the Qur'an and the Sunnah, not some Western inspired mishmash of pseudo Islamic rules that no-one takes seriously. Most importantly it is the Khilafah that will move rapidly to redress the injustices currently meted out to the developing world, Muslim and non-Muslim, by the developed world. In having these effects, the Khilafah will guarantee security and peace both for its own citizens and the citizens of foreign, even enemy powers. It is because of this justice and security that the Western Europe will fall out of love with the values that cause their own suffering and that of the rest of the world, and fall in love with the ideology of Islam. Violence is not the way to better society, may those responsible for killing innocent people desist before more lives lost. Truth will prevail over falsehood and justice over oppression.
