Caller says he recognized Bali bomber

Oct. 6, 2005 at 6:29AM

Indonesian police have received a tip from a man who claimed to
recognize one of the Bali bombers after police released a photo of
his severed head.

The man called police in Solo, a city on the main island of
Java, and said one of the bombers had studied at a nearby Islamic
boarding school, Channel NewsAsia reported Thursday. Several
convicted terrorists have studied at the school.

The caller claimed the man was known by the name Gareng. Many
Indonesians use only one name.
Police were also questioning several detained terror suspects,
among them two who have been sentenced to death for their roles in
the 2002 Bali bombings.

Police in Banten province on Java continued their search for
five men with suspected terrorist links who had been under
surveillance and had disappeared from their homes.

Local media reported that a family in Central Java said one of
the bombers could be their son, Rosikin, who had left home last year
to find work.

Elsewhere, police denied a local television report that
Malaysian bomb maker Azahari Husin had been arrested. Azahari and
fellow Malaysian fugitive Noordin Mohamed Top are suspected of
connections to both Bali bomb attacks.
